Tactical Signs (DV-101)

SARmission v3.10+ supports the twelve operationally most important tactical-sign symbols per DV-101 — Germany's federal civil-protection standard for cross-organization situation-picture symbology, used by fire, police, EMS, technical relief (THW), and all aid organizations.

Why this matters for non-K9 BOS personnel

DV-101 is the multi-agency lingua franca for tactical-map communication. A fire-department incident-command operator understands the blue pennant just as a Red-Cross paramedic or a police dispatcher does. SARmission brings this symbology into the K9 mission map — without IC having to invent ad-hoc symbols.

The 12 symbols

Symbol Category Meaning
🟥 Red diamond with ? Damage situation Missing person
🟢 Green diamond with ✓ Damage situation Missing person (found)
🟥 Red diamond with bandage Damage situation Injured person
⬛ Black diamond with ✕ Damage situation Deceased person
🟦 Blue pennant with "IPP" Own forces IPP / Last-Known-Point
🟦 Blue pennant dashed with "B" Own forces Staging area (Bereitstellungsraum)
🟦 Blue pennant with dog symbol Own forces K9 unit (location of working dog team)
🟦 Blue pennant with "ELW" Own forces Incident command vehicle
⬜ White square with red cross Measure Aid station / first-aid post
🟧 Orange pennant Measure Collection / supply point
🔺 Yellow triangle with ⚠ Hazard General hazard
🔺 Yellow triangle with flame Hazard Fire

DV-101 base-form convention

All DV-101 symbols follow these primitives:

  • Damage situation → red diamond (square on point)
  • Own forces / Measure → blue pennant (rectangle with point on top)
  • Hazard → yellow triangle
  • Medical measure → white square with red cross
  • Deceased / final state → black variant of damage symbol

Setting a tactical sign in SARmission

  1. Click in the action bar on Tactical Sign
  2. The picker opens with all 12 symbols, organized by category
  3. (Optional) Type in the search field to filter (e.g., "IPP", "B")
  4. (Optional) Add a free-text label (e.g., "LKP at parking lot, 14:00 hrs")
  5. Click on the map at the desired position — the symbol appears immediately

Persistence

  • Live-sync stable — symbols sync via Yjs CRDT to all connected peer devices
  • Saved into the .rhs mission file
  • Included in KML export (with <styleUrl> for each of the 12 predefined symbols)
  • Embedded into the printed situation report (PDF)
  • Audit-trailed in the mission journal for every add/move/delete
